Secret Royal Inspector & Joy (2021) Review

Review

“Secret Royal Inspector & Joy” is a cheerful comic couple investigative show about Doryung, a gourmet foodie, Hou-dae, who has been pushed back and turned into an idiot, and his wife (divorced woman) who rushes in search of happiness.

Ok Taecyeon transforms into ‘Yi Eon’, a scoundrel who has become a Secret Royal Inspector ‘somehow’. Hong Mun-kwan’s vice-chancellor, he is a civil servant with a mannerism of ‘man-rep’ whose motto is to guard lunchtime and leave work on time. He is randomly assigned to a secret service, and his easy-going life begins to take a turn. Kim Hye-yoon takes on the role of ‘Jo Yi’, the wife of a message who rushes in search of happiness. Dreaming of a rosy second life, she has a bold personality who cries out for the sectarian (consensual divorce in the upper class). An encounter with ‘Yi Eon’, whom she thought was only her bad affair, marks a turning point in her life.

The two-person poster released shows Ra Yi Eon (Taecyeon Ok) and Kim Jo Yi (played by Kim Hye-yoon) standing in the middle of the game board of Sadangpae. As if dancing, they are standing facing each other, and the sadangpae sounding the wind music seem to celebrate the birth of an unparalleled “special” Usa Combi. The secret gesture of the two with their fingers on their lips raises expectations for a ‘Great Reconciliation Show that will shake the nation’. Expectations are high on the performances of these people who will captivate viewers with their refreshing and thrilling romance as well as a refreshing investigative story.

If you look at the cryptography item, you can see it in detail, but there are quite a few differences between the setting in the play and the cryptography of the actual history. Representatively, in the teaser video, the main character ‘Ra Yi Eon’ is selected as a secret word, and he sheds tears thinking about the terrible ending of his predecessors who were assassinated or killed by wild beasts. This seems to be a setting based on the myth that ‘survival rate of secret words is less than 30%’ from Office of Special Advisors, which aired on the same broadcasting company, but in reality, it is safe to say that there is no such thing.

According to records, there have been more than 600 dispatches of secret words over a period of over 300 years. It is often described in historical dramas as if they were keeping confidentiality and carrying one or two guards, but in real history, it was difficult for a life-threatening situation to occur because the Secret Royal Inspector was carried with at least three or four, and at most, more than a dozen attendants.

Especially in the case of an assassination, it is safe to say that there is no possibility at all, but if the whereabouts of the secret words that the king personally appoints and sends to represent the king become unclear, things usually do not get serious from that point on. Areas where the king as well as the central government have an emergency and the news has been cut off will be subject to the highest level of surveillance and investigation at the entire government level.

The drama with many humorous and dramatic elements makes the audience curious. The viewers of this drama will be those who participate in the secret investigation with the characters, which makes viewers excited and can not miss any details. tvN’s 15th anniversary special Monday-Tuesday drama ‘Secret Royal Inspector & Joy’, directed by Yoo Jong-sun, written by Lee Jae-yoon, produced by Studio Dragon, Mongjakso. Director Yoo Jong-sun, who directed the dramas ’60 Days, Designated Survivor’ and ‘What’s Wrong with Secretary Kim’, and writer Lee Jae-yoon, who wrote the movies ‘Girl Cops’, ‘Hunnam Jeong-eum’, and ‘Craving Doda’, work together to create a unique comic historical drama.
