President Biden will visit Israel ‘later this year’ says White House

Joe Biden’s administration plans to visit the Middle East before Christmas.

The White House confirmed Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett recently invited President Biden to Israel before the end of 2022.

“The president thanked the prime minister for his invitation to visit Israel and said he looks forward to a visit later this year,” a representative said in a statement.

The remarks came after they used a telephone conference to discuss “shared security,” the “threat posed by Iran and its proxies,” and other challenges in the region.

The Democrat stressed America’s commitment to expand “stability and partnerships,” especially through the Abraham Accords. He also hoped Israelis and Palestinians would find ways to enjoy “equal measures of security, freedom, and prosperity.”

“They discussed the recent U.S. operation against the Islamic State leader [Abu Ibrahim al-Hashimi al-Qurayshi] in northwestern Syria, and the ongoing U.S. commitment to protect the American people and support the defense of its partners across the Middle East region,” the White House said.

The military operation in question was the biggest U.S. raid in Syria since the Trump administration’s 2019 operation, which killed Islamic State leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi.

“The world is now a safer place thanks to the courageous operation of the U.S. forces,” Bennett said according to the Associated Press.

Biden also promised to show “unwavering support” for Israel’s security and freedom of action.

“[Biden emphasized] his administration’s full support for replenishing Israel’s Iron Dome system,” the White House said.

The pair also discussed potential “further Russian aggression” against Ukraine.

“They agreed that their teams would remain in close consultation,” the representative said.
