Our Beloved Summer (2021) Review

“Our Beloved Summer” is a romance of youth growth that unfolds when ex-lovers are forcibly summoned due to the reverse popularity of a documentary filmed in high school. The after-effects and complex subtle emotions of the relationship that should have ended with ‘It was dirty together and let’s not see each other again!’ are drawn honestly. It is expected that unrequited love resembling the fickle early summer weather, the love stories, and the growing pains of young people who started, again and again, will create a heart-fluttering sympathy.

Above all, attention is focused on the synergy of the ‘Legendary couple’ Choi Woo-Shik and Kim Dami, who reunited after 3 years after the movie ‘The Witch: The Subversion’. Unlike the previous works in which they were terribly constricting each other, they transformed into lovers of love and hatred after spending the greenest time in their lives together and showing a deeper acting breath. In addition, Kim Seong-Cheol and Noh Jeong-ui, who are loved by the public for their unique charm and solid acting, add to the anticipation even more.

Choi Woo-Shik takes on the role of ‘Choi Woong’, an illustrator of a free spirit. Choi Woong, who does not have a proper dream and is accustomed to living by hiding himself, is a person who faces various emotions while meeting Gook Yeon-soo (Kim Da-mi), who is the No.1 during her school days. In a meeting with Gook Yeon-soo, who suddenly appeared without notice after six years, Woong Choi reveals a new side of the relationship with a different look than before. Interest in the choice of Choi Woo-Shik, who received global attention with the movie ‘Parasite’, is hotter than ever. Choi Woo-Shik said, “I am happy and excited to be appearing in a drama after a long time. I think it will be even more fun to reunite with actress Kim Da-mi.” “I want to meet you all soon. Please look forward to it a lot,” he said with excitement.

Kim Da-mi transforms into a realist public relations expert ‘Gook Yeon-soo’ who goes straight for her success. Gook Yeon-soo did not miss first place in the whole school during her school days, and when she appeared in society, she became a publicist recognized by everyone. She is a daring youth who runs without hesitation, looking only at success, but she is also becoming an adult living with scars and emptiness in the harsh reality. As she reunites as a business partner with Choi Woong, who broke up not to see him even if he is no longer of this world, the emotions she’s been working hard on begin to shake. Kim Da-mi, who showed off her presence by making hits in her movie ‘The Witch: Subversion’ and the drama ‘Itaewon Class’ one after another, is once again renewing ‘her life character’. She said, “I’m excited to see you in a drama that can tell the story of young people. I look forward to working with the actors I work with. I will do my best to act,” she said.

Kim Seong-Cheol takes on the role of ‘Kim Ji-Woong, a documentary director who lives life from an observer’s point of view. Kim Ji-Woong, who has a lot of loneliness, thinks that the documentary director who contemplates the world from behind the camera somehow resembles him. After maintaining an omniscient viewpoint throughout his life, he met a change when he filmed a documentary about Choi Woong and Gook Yeon-soo’s reminder. Kim Seong-Cheol, who left a strong impression by digesting any character with his own color, is already looking forward to the transformation. Kim Seong-Cheol said, “It’s a warm and cute script. He is already looking forward to meeting viewers. I will do my best to prepare to show a new side of me in the role of Kim Ji-Woong, so please look forward to it.”

Noh Jeong-eui plays the role of NJ, the top idol who prepares for the second act of his life. NJ is a top star who does not miss the top spot, equipped with skills and overwhelming visuals. After running fiercely, he senses that she is gradually deviating from the normal track, and prepares to live her real life. As she begins to take an interest in Choi Woong’s illustrations that comfort his heart, she naturally becomes curious about him as well. Noh Jeong-eui, who is looking forward to her acting transformation, said, “It is an honor to be able to film a wonderful work with good people. I will do my best to meet as an actor with a more mature image. Please give me a lot of love and attention.”
