One Ordinary Day (2021) Review

A drama that explores the criminal justice system from an extremely popular perspective through the fierce story of two men surrounding the murder of a woman. The first Coupang Play series, “One Ordinary Day”, to be released, is an eight-part series depicting the fierce survival of Kim Hyeon-soo (Kim Soo-hyun), who becomes a murder suspect overnight from an ordinary college student, and Shin Jung-han (Cha Seung-won), a third-class lawyer who does not ask the truth. A hardcore crime drama.

Above all, “One Ordinary Day” is the meeting of director Lee Myung-woo, who showed off his directing skills regardless of the genre with ‘Punch’, ‘Whisper’ and ‘The Fiery Priest’, along with a lineup of luxury actors leading to global actors Kim Soo-hyun and Cha Seung-won, and rising stars Kim Seong-gyu and Lee Seol. It is regarded as the most interesting work that will shake up the second half of the year.

Kim Hyun-soo, who sat down in a prison uniform, bowed his head in a crouched position, showing a crossed expression of injustice and desperate frustration. Here, the composition emphasizing the high wall and the gray tone color exudes heavy energy and double the atmosphere.

In particular, Kim Soo-hyun is amplifying curiosity about Kim Soo-hyun’s ‘hardcore crime drama’ by expressing the emotions of a person whose ordinary life has fallen even in a single cut. Attention is focused on what the message in “One Ordinary Day” will be delivered by Kim Hyun-soo, who will be in trouble with the start of the play.

The first trailer focused on the night that ordinary college student Kim Hyeon-soo (Kim Soo-hyun) became a murder suspect and activated a sharp tracking signal. Kim Hyun-soo, who is anxiously fiddling with his hands, said, “Hyun-soo, from now on, you won’t say anything about that night’s work. Absolutely,” the voice of cautious Han (Cha Seung-won) resonated, and Kim Hyun-soo expressed his extreme fear with a gaze that had nowhere to go.

Then, the camera that revealed the inside of the house locked in darkness illuminates the traces of that night that are hidden everywhere as if it would be sucked in. After passing through a knife, a drop of blood, a bloodstain on the stair handle, and a broken vase, Kim Hyeon-soo said, “But you need to know what I’m talking about.” This was reflected and amplified the sense of crisis.

Joonghan said, “You really are. Yes? I can’t do anything because I’m obsessed with the real thing,” and then the flash of the police forensics team exploded behind the woman drinking in the shaking screen, highlighting the seriousness of the incident. A woman’s hand cutting a lime as if she had turned back time, Kim Hyeon-soo with a hazy expression, Kim Hyun-soo leaving the house as if he was running away, and suspicious behavior hiding something was caught in succession. And the appearance of Kim Hyeon-soo crying and roaring at the police station doubled the mystery.

On the other hand, the video of the extreme tension was converted to the investigation site of Kim Hyeon-soo wearing a prison uniform, and once again had a strong impact. Kim Hyun-soo, who was nervously rolling his eyes, stared at the front with the words “Is the girl dead?”, raising curiosity about “One Ordinary Day”.
