Girl group NewJeans swept the music and album charts by topping the Melon real-time charts.
NewJeans debut song “Attention” has remained at its peak as of 2 p.m. on August 10 since reaching the top of the Melon real-time chart at 11 p.m. on August 9. Among the K-pop groups that debuted this year, NewJeans is the only group that topped the Melon real-time chart.
“Attention” ranked third on Melon’s daily chart on August 9, jumping up from the previous day, while the second title song “Hype Boy” and the third title song “Cookie” ranked 11th and 49th, respectively. NewJeans’ songs entered Melon’s daily chart immediately on August 2, the day after their album release, and set a new record, the shortest time taken to chart among girl group debut songs released in the past three years.
On August 9, all four tracks in the debut album, including “Attention,” “Hype Boy,” “Cookie” and “Hurt,” were listed on the Bugs daily chart. In particular, “Attention” and “Hype Boy” remained in first and second place for two consecutive days, while “Cookie” and “Hurt” ranked 10th and 17th, boasting even popularity of all four songs.
NewJeans is also showing off its huge popularity on Spotify, the world’s largest music streaming application. “Attention” and “Hype Boy” ranked first and second in the daily top song chart of Korea Spotify for eight consecutive days, while “Cookie” ranked third and “Hurt” ranked sixth in the “Daily Top Song” chart on August 9.
NewJeans entered the Billboard charts eight days after the release of their debut album. “Attention” ranked 174th on the latest “Billboard Global” chart released on August 9.
Previously it was reported that their album “New Jeans” sold 262,815 copies on the day of its release, topping the daily chart of Hanteo’s albums on August 8, and making a new sales record on the first day of its release among the idol group’s debut albums since September 2019.
