Mitch McConnell has GOP’s ‘full support’ to lead Senate says Sen. Romney

Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) has the Republican Party’s complete endorsement.

Mitt Romney believes McConnell will receive full GOP support as Senate minority leader.

“I think there is full support for Mitch McConnell, there is no question about that,” he said in a video shared on YouTube. “I have not heard anything other than a solid support for his continued leadership.”

The remarks came despite Donald Trump’s calls to replace McConnell. Romney reiterated he is no fan of the previous Republican Party president.

“People are always trying to placate Donald Trump [and] I do not fall in that camp, of course,” the Utah senator can be heard saying. “I would not attribute that as a comment about Mitch McConnell as much as a comment about Donald Trump.”

He also supported the U.S. House Select Committee on the Jan. 6 attack’s efforts to investigate the 2021 Capitol riots.

“There is no question that they are finding things that we did not know, and I think that is appropriate,” he said. “We need to understand why there was not a rescue effort launched well before what finally came. They are delving into that and I think that is a legitimate effort.”

Romney earlier predicted Trump would win the Republican Party’s presidential primary in 2024 if he stands for nomination.

“He has by far the largest voice and a big impact in my party,” the senator previously said. “I do not know about his family members, whether they intend to do that but I expect he will continue playing a role.”

“I do not know if he is planning to run in 2024 or not but, if he does, I am pretty sure he would win the nomination,” he added. “I look at the polls, and the polls show that among the names being floated as potential contenders in 2024, if you put President Trump in there among Republicans, he wins in a landslide.”
