Liberal justice works from home after Republican Neil Gorsuch ‘refuses to wear a mask’

A Democrat-appointed judge keeps hearing cases remotely because her conservative colleague will not cover his nose and mouth.

Associate Justice Sonia Sotomayor remotely attends U.S. Supreme Court matters because fellow GOP Associate Justice Neil Gorsuch is maskless.

The 67-year-old former President Barack Obama nominated for the job, has regularly worn a face mask since in-person arguments resumed in fall 2021. At the time, no other justices covered their nose and mouth.

In early 2022, the court returned to the bench, and Sotomayor stressed she felt unsafe because Gorsuch “refuses to wear a mask.” Chief Justice John Roberts tried to convince the Republican and other judges to be accommodating but the matter remains unresolved.

“Every justice is vaccinated and boosted,” Gorsuch’s former law clerk Mike Davis said on Twitter. “Don’t vaccines work? We know cloth masks do not.”

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has already admitted that not all face masks effectively prevent infection.

“Masks and respirators (i.e. specialized filtering masks such as ‘N95s’) can provide different levels of protection depending on the type of mask and how they are used,” CDC said on its website.

“Loosely woven cloth products provide the least protection, layered finely woven products offer more protection, well-fitting disposable surgical masks, and KN95s offer even more protection—and well-fitting NIOSH-approved respirators (including N95s) offer the highest level of protection,” the agency added.

Because Sotomayor’s demands have not been met, she conducts court business by phone. Unfortunately, the same privileges are not available to lawyers, members of the press, and general public.

“The rules are far more strict for those in the chamber who do not rank as justices. Reporters and lawyers are required to wear N95 masks and test negative for COVID-19,” Daily Mail politics journalist Morgan Phillips reported.
