[KPop] Minister Of Culture, Sports And Tourism Says Official Statement Regarding BTS Enlistment Will Be Made Within December

The Culture, Sports, and Tourism Minister Park Bo Byun said he will announce the official statement on the military service issue of the group’s BTS within December.

On October 5, Park Bo Kyun, the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, said in a parliamentary audit of the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism regarding the BTS military service issue’s positive consideration,

“The decision for enlistment for military service of BTS Jin will be made within  December, and we will confirm the ministry’s statement regarding this as soon as possible.”

Jin, the eldest member of BTS, was born in 1992, and his enlistment has been postponed until the end of this year under the 2020 Military Service Act amendment. If the revision to the so-called “Special Act on Military Service in BTS,” which is currently pending in the National Assembly, is not passed, he will have to enlist early next year.

Minister Park said,

We are comprehensively reviewing the issue of defense and military service as a symbol of fairness considering the fact that BTS has made South Korea known as K-culture leaders. We will also look at the issue of equality between popular and genuine artists, including BTS, and the performance as a whole, public opinion analysis and the opinion of men in their 20s.”

Meanwhile, SBS reported on October 4 that the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism reported about how to improve the art and sports personnel system to the senior presidential office last week.

The report is said to separately include allowing all BTS members to travel abroad and stay outside the unit for about 120 days a year, drawing keen attention to whether BTSs will be guaranteed activities regardless of enlistment.
