Happiness Is Easy (2021) Review

The urban emotional drama “Happiness Is Easy”, produced by Chen Jianbin and directed by Han Jie, stars Chen Jianbin, Mei Ting, Tu Songyan, Liu Weiwei, Yu Mingjia, Zhang Shu, Chi Jia, Wu Xiaomin, Zhang Seed Mu, Xu Wenguang and Guo Xiao Xiao, will start broadcasting.

The story of “Happiness Is Easy” is about a small-town teacher, Jian Dan (Mei Ting), who quits her job for love and becomes a tutor for the daughter of Ma Liwen (Chen Jianbin), the president of a publishing group. There are also unspeakable secrets and hardships between Ma Liwen and his ex-wife Wang Yiru (Liu Weiwei).

The drama is different from other realistic dramas in that it takes the publishing industry in the era of fragmented reading as a starting point, incorporating many world classics such as “Resurrection”, “Anna Karenina” and “The Shackles of Life” and their golden lines into the plot, using books as a medium to share the beauty of classic literature with the audience.

“Maybe this play will make the audience think for a moment how long it’s been since they’ve been in a bookstore and read a book in its entirety, and one of our original intentions was to awaken that reading fever that shouldn’t be far away.” Producer Yang Weihua said.

Director Han Jie said, “How to ‘not be confused’ is actually a proposition that people are always thinking about in their life growing up, and this drama focuses not only on emotional confusion but also on career and family, including the current fate of brick-and-mortar bookstores and intergenerational relationships under the family of origin, hoping to bring some positive energy to young people nowadays. I hope to bring some positive energy to young people nowadays.” Producer Cai Xiaoli admits, “The Journey of the Unpredictable has both the unbearable weight of life and the courage to break out and breakthrough, so I hope the audience will also find the answers they want in the drama.”

Inspirational perspective on social reality to draw the power of breaking the situation with books as a medium. One is the president of a book publishing group, and under the fierce impact of the tide of the times, he insists on keeping a corner for physical bookstores; one is a town teacher who chooses to “drift north” for love but is in a dilemma due to her boyfriend’s betrayal. The two people, who were originally on different tracks of life, met at a “dark” moment in their careers and emotions, and then moved forward side by side after understanding each other.

In the freshly released final trailer, the inspirational portrayal of marriage and family, entrepreneurship, women’s perspective, intergenerational relationships, and other issues is a true concern for the current social phenomenon. Because of this, the characters’ encounters and struggles are easy to empathize with, and their attitudes of maintaining their originality and striving for happiness also provide a vivid reference coordinate for contemporary young people to establish the right outlook on the three.
