An infectious diseases expert and the president’s chief medical advisor will be investigated if the GOP regains control of the U.S. House, a Trump ally said.
Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) promised to launch a congressional inquiry into Dr. Fauci if a House Republican majority wins the federal election on Nov. 8.
“If the American people put us back in charge we are definitely going to do this,” he said on Fox News’s “Sunday Morning Futures” program.
Jordan is concerned the current president’s chief medical advisor Dr. Fauci might have withheld important information about the origins of coronavirus (also known as the Chinese Communist Party [CCP] virus.)
“We now know without a doubt that Dr. Fauci knew on Jan. 31 and Feb. 1 that this thing [CCP virus] came from a lab,” Jordan said according to the broadcaster. “Top scientists in the country were saying it came from a lab.”
The congressman recently revealed multiple emails from Fauci, suggesting the clinician knew the deadly disease might have been engineered and leaked from the Wuhan Institute of Virology in mainland China.
“One scientist says we got the notes now from the conference call on Feb. 1 [and] one scientist says, ‘I do not see how this can happen in nature but it would be easy to do in a lab,’” Jordan said. “In a matter of days, they changed their position [and] wrote the article that appears in Nature of Medicine Magazine. Which then gets cited in the now famous letter in ‘The Lancet’—which became the gospel for the fact that Fauci can go out and tell people it did not come from a lab.”
The congressman referred to an earlier statement from Kristian Anderson, suggesting the CCP virus “looks engineered.” However, the immunology and microbiology professor at Scripps Research later revised his conclusion.
“On Jan. 31, 2020, he says this to Dr. Fauci in an email. He says, ‘Virus looks engineered. Virus not consistent with evolutionary theory,’” Jordan said. “He knew it came from a lab but they changed their position and a few months later, guess what? They get an $8.9 million [grant,] both him and Dr. [Robert] Garry—the guy who said it could not happen naturally.”
The Republican previously tried to raise these concerns in U.S. Congress. However, the House Select Committee on the Jan. 6 Attack was too busy trying to blame the previous president for the Capitol riots.
“This is designed to get after Trump,” he said. “They do not want him to run again, because President Trump I think is going to run again, and I think he is going to win.”
Jordan then criticized the Biden administration’s weak stance on the CCP’s alleged wrongdoing, and friendly dialogue with the communist dictatorship.
“President Trump was the first president to truly stand up to China, to take the fight to China and say, ‘We are not going to tolerate all of the things you do in international trade. We are going to stand up and project strength from the Oval Office,’” he said. “Now you have Joe Biden where we get [our face] masks from China.”
