Chimera (2021) Review

On the 9th, OCN’s new Saturday and Sunday drama “Chimera” released the main poster with an intense and mysterious atmosphere. “Chimera” is the story about homicide detective Cha Jae Hyun (Park Hae-soo), criminal profiler Eugene (Soo-Hyeon), and surgeon Joong-Yeop (Lee Hee-jun). It is a serial explosion tracking thriller that follows the truth of a serial explosion murder case that started again after 35 years for a different purpose, the so-called ‘Chimera’.

Chimera incident, serial murder and explosion crime that shook the year of 1984, takes place exactly the same, later thirty-five years in 2019. Just like the terrible explosion in the past, the murder of the crime is called Chimera, a monster in the Greek myth with the head of a lion, body as a goat, and tail as a snake that shoots fire through its throat. The unusual incident emanating from the title and the mystery behind it is the points of observation of this work. The story follows a violent crimes detective named Jae Hwan, a criminal profiler named Yoo Jin, and a surgeon named Joong Yeob, as they track down the criminal and uncover the secrets between the two cases.

Park Hae-soo, who plays Jae-hwan, a homicide detective, is showing a strong presence with a sharp eye, and Su-Hyeon, who plays the role of Yoo-jin, a former FBI profiler who chases the case, is curious about the drama.

Lee Hee-Joon, who plays the role of Jung-Yeop, a surgeon who pursues the truth, has a grim expression with a frown on his forehead, so the tension of the characters who are keen to uncover the full story of the case is felt.

Especially ‘Monster Awakens”, the main copy of ‘Chimera’ and the picture of the Chimera adds to the atmosphere full of mystery and urgency, raising viewers’ expectations.

This drama is like the Chimera, a monster in Greek mythology. Those who want to bring judgment on the wrongdoings 35 years ago. Those who pursue the culprit of a mysterious explosion of unknown cause. It is a story of ultimately finding salvation in the present life by uncovering the truth of the past.

Maximize curiosity with a mysterious explosion accident of an unknown cause using a chemical reaction. Through the fate of the protagonist in a tragic dilemma in a Greek classic. I try to think about whether the tragedies of the past can be saved through the past efforts of the present.
